After studying Photography at Musashino Art University, Hirano worked as photographer' s assistant at Kodansha Publishing. During his apprenticeship, he acquired all practical photographing techniques.
Hirano is founder of skateboard magazine 'SB', where he also serves as picture editor. Currently, he documents professional skateboarding for 'SB', as well as planning and providing features on skateboarding culture for 'Relax' and other magazines from MagazineHouse.
His artworks can also be seen on album jackets for Toys Factory, Warner Music Japan, Ready Made, Readymade Entertainment and also in fashion and culture magazines from publishing houses Takarajimasha, Kodansha, and Inforest.
Hirano opened 'No.12 Gallery' in Shibuyaku, Tokyo. With contacts made in private life and at work, both in Japan and abroad, he provides an exhibitional space for his friends from various fields of artistic practice.
The zine of Hirano' s collaboration with Mark Gonzales was shown in the exhibition 'Beautiful Losers', which has traveled the USA and abroad.
In the summer of 2005, his first photography book 'POOL' was published. 2007 has seen the publishing of his latest book, Barabara, by the Littlemore Chika Gallery.
