JR is an internationally acclaimed street artist and photographer who, with classic wheat-pasting methods and documentary photography, creates an all out assault of in your face street imagery. Originally interested in the landscape of his suburban paris neighborhood, JR found his first real camera inside of the paris metro late one night. From that night on JR used his newly found camera and his late night wheat pasting actions to document and exhibit the vibrant hip hop culture of paris. From touristy downtown to the depths of the ghetto, JR had made pedestrians well aware of his dynamic street presence. JR’s dedication and consistency to get up and move forward has propelled him to status as an international man of artistic mystery.
During the exhibition at Circle Culture Gallery Berlin, a new book by JR was introduced, which consists of a year long photographic diary of the photographer and street artist who traveled all over the US and Europe to photograph active street artists in the streets. The book has been constructed like a real diary or scrap book and is all hand made by the artist himself. The exhibition showcased the actual hand made pages of the book and exclusive images of various streets and street artists in action, featuring work by akim, alexone, bast, blek, blu, bo130, boris hoppek, cum, el tono, elik, faile, lolo, microbo, miss van, nano 4814, nomad, obey giant, pez, sixe, the london police, zevs, zast and many more.
