AARON ROSE, WES ANDERSON & MONTBLANC AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL

Aaron Rose created the official poster for Music from the Films of Wes Anderson, bringing visual art into a three-night celebration of film and music at the Hollywood Bowl.

In July 2026, Music from the Films of Wes Anderson brought three decades of Anderson’s films and their unmistakable soundtracks to the Hollywood Bowl.

For the three-night retrospective, Aaron Rose created the official concert poster, placing his work at the centre of the event’s visual identity. During the weekend, the poster was signed by Wes Anderson and participating guests including Bill Murray and Mark Mothersbaugh.

The design was also produced as a series of postcards distributed throughout the Hollywood Bowl. An accompanying film directed by Roman Coppola followed the poster as it gathered signatures, gradually turning it into a record of the people involved in the event.

The project brought film, music and visual art together in a natural way. Rose’s work was not simply added to the retrospective but became part of how the weekend was experienced and remembered.

A MEETING OF CREATIVE WORLDS

Montblanc’s orchestration of the project was particularly strong. Writing, signatures and the act of leaving a personal mark were integrated into a celebration of film and music in a way that felt closely connected to the brand’s own world.

Criterion extended the programme beyond the concerts with its first Criterion Cinema, screenings and the Criterion Mobile Closet. Together, the different elements turned the weekend into a wider celebration of Wes Anderson’s cinematic universe and the creative voices surrounding it.

We are proud to see our longtime artist and partner Aaron Rose at the centre of this special exchange.

FROM ZOETROPE: ALL-STORY TO THE ZOETROPE STUDIES

The collaboration also connects to another chapter of Rose’s practice. While the film documenting the Hollywood Bowl weekend was directed by Roman Coppola, Rose’s Zoetrope Studies originated with Zoetrope: All-Story, the literary magazine founded by Francis Ford Coppola.

Aaron Rose was invited to serve as guest designer for the magazine’s Winter 2022/2023 issue. Rather than drawing on existing work, he created an entirely new group of paintings for the publication. The compositions accompanied short fiction by Elizabeth McCracken, Jamel Brinkley and Yiyun Li, allowing image and text to enter into an open dialogue.

The first Zoetrope composition appeared on the magazine’s cover. Rose later continued the visual language as an independent series of unique mixed-media paintings.
