OSKAR RINK X ARTE

Twist visited Oskar Rink for ARTE in her atelier in Leipzig. A feature that focuses on the human need for retreat and explores the concept of “coziness” seen as a longing for emotional closeness in a cold and chaotic world.

The Leipzig based artist grew up in the studio of her father Arno Rink, a famous painter in the GDR, where she learned the basic elements of painting. Influenced by her experience as a fashion designer and illustrator, she resigned from following in the footsteps of her father and mentor in order to develop her own artistic language. Using simple materials such as paper, cardboard and wooden sticks, she aims to reconstruct manifested dream worlds, contemplating the eternal search for a home and for a sense of identity.

Over the years, Circle Culture has presented her work in several solo and group exhibitions. One of the most significant was the 2012 group exhibition Oskar Rink & Arno Rink in collaboration with her father. Their relationship, shaped by continuous personal and creative exchange, was central to this long planned show. What had developed through years of working side by side in the Rinks’ shared atelier became visible in the double exhibition, which highlighted both the differences in their artistic approaches and the harmony between them. Arno Rink’s canvases explored the figure in unstable states within space, while Oskar Rink’s fragile, paper based structures allowed various figures to emerge from delicate spatial constellations.

This feature offers a unique insight into her work process and environment, revealing the more intimate side of her practice and highlighting how her atelier functions as a creative refuge where she feels safe and grounded and where her artistic language can unfold freely.
