The Urban Artist was a unique collaboration between Circle Culture Gallery and Soho house Berlin. Showing works of several artists that can be described as “subculture activists” in their own right. Many of the participating artists have merged into ‘fine art’ in the course of this project despite having street and graffiti background.
A special panel discusses how to define urban art and its potential for future development. The panel included Dr. Ilaria Hoppe from the Institute for Art and Visual History at Humboldt University, graffiti artist Christian Awe, and the exhibition curator Johann Haehling von Lanzenauer. It was moderated by Jan Kage from Kunst Magazin, “Art Collector Talks,” and the “Radio Arty” broadcast on MotorFM.
Founded in 2001, Circle Culture Gallery presents international contemporary art through exhibitions in Berlin and Hamburg as well as temporary spaces, institutional partnerships and interdisciplinary projects in Germany and abroad.
